This is the fifth time I have bought this title. I read it when I was young, and loved it. Gave it away as a present, which I ended up regretting later. Bought it a second time, although the binding was not as nice as the first one. Years later when my second book was falling apart I bought it again. I also have an audio book version. This is a very nice hardcover book that I bought to give as a present.It is written in the form of a diary. The main character is Enrique a 3rd grade Italian student that goes to school in the time right after Italy had become a unified country. It covers from the first day of school to the end of a year filled with growth and reflection. It depicts the friendships and adventures that he develops throughout the school year.

I believe this is a book all children should read. Also, when I read it (I was about 10 years old) I really loved it.
