Blind Dates Are for Wimps!
At least, that’s what Adric Garrison thinks.
Can you blame him? Thanks to his sister and brother-in-law, Adric is about to embark on a year of month-long, chaperoned, blind dates. Awkward.
He didn’t ask for it. But Adric still finds himself living what seems more like a bad TV reality show than a new life in Fairbury.
Once an ordinary (if prematurely gray and vertically challenged) guy, Adric is now Fairbury’s newest “most eligible bachelor,” and dreams of permanent bachelorhood loom on the horizon.
Will he call it quits before the year is out, or will one of his “girls of the month” change his mind?
One man, twelve women, one happily ever after.
Thirty Days Hath edition by Chautona Havig Religion Spirituality eBooks
Ok, so the first time I read the title and looked at the front, I thought we were going to have a murder mystery... However, this is a very clever story putting a Christian twist on the whole reality series of a man finding a wife. He selected 12 women who volunteered to get to know him for a month at a time. Each woman brings a chaperone with her and lives with him for a month while they spend time getting to know one another. Is it a likely concept? No. Is it intriguing to think of setting someone up like this? Yes. Could it really work to find a spouse? Maybe. Did it make a fun story to read and a fun way to learn about different characters? Absolutely.I don't think that Chautona Havig set out to write this book as a way to point out flaws to single women as indicated in a couple of the reviews. If you take it that way, so be it. I think she just took a very worldly concept like the "Bachelor/Bachelorette" concept and made it into a more Biblically appropriate concept. It is a fun story presenting a new spin on finding a mate. Could I picture myself having done this particular "dating" method? Nope. But I sure enjoyed reading it!

Thirty Days Hath edition by Chautona Havig Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
Chautona has done it again, telling tales of Fairbury's ordinary citizens and making me wish I lived there too. Adric's Sister and Brother-in-law have arranged a dating plan intended to help Adric meet his intended. Instead, he meets either great potential or lack thereof, unless you count Misses February, May, July, September... Oh, you'd better read it yourself to find out who Adric meets and what he learns about them (and their chaperones) and himself.
I found that there were girls I could not stand. Reading about them was laborious. I could almost feel Adric's relief when they left, but there were a few that stuck around - for better or worse!
If this is your first of Chautona Havig's books, you will hear mention of several of Fairbury's more colorful personalities Alexa Hartfield, Caleb Allen, Chuck Majors, Officer Joe, Willow and Chad... You will want to read more of her Fairbury Tales to find out more!

Thank you, Chautona, for another well-written book!
I'm a guy and would never read a romance novel. Don't be concerned, this book is much, much more. It is also an original mystery.
I didn't want to put it down, but stretched it out to enjoy it even more, like a special treat not to be eaten at one sitting. For the first time since I can remember, I anxiously looked forward to reading a book.
It is an original-concept story, one that delightfully surprised me live one month (chaperoned) with a pre-selected woman and decide to marry one.
As a guy, I related well to the fellow around whom it is based, Adric. What a challenge; what pressure! I wondered how the author was going to make each woman so different and enthralling each month, but she did.
Please note I don't want you to be surprised when you find out the characters are Christians. Don't walk away from this book or be upset. I am a Jew and loved meeting people I would never otherwise know. Their lives are very different from mine.
The storyline, the characters, the location, the morality and a love of life and God make this book captivating. Don't miss it. Like the guy on TV who sells mens clothes, "I guarantee it."
I admit it. I wasn't expecting to love this book. I'm a sucker for a funny love story so I picked this one out even though I thought it sounded like a ridiculous premise. I figured I'd spend half the book rolling my eyes at slapstick and unbelievability, but still get a few chuckles and a sweet ending.
It does deliver the sweet ending. But the characters also had some sparkle and they all acted like they were in on the joke, as if they knew the set up would probably never happen, but if it did... Somehow that made it okay. I could just enjoy the usually interesting and occasionally witty conversations. The book is very dialog heavy. Almost to a fault. There were a few times when I didn't know what the characters were talking about and could have used a bit more back story.
While the book is fairly light-hearted overall, there is a bit of drama near the end and the characters are regularly forced to do homework. There are a few times each month that the guy and his girl of the month have to answer questions sort of like couples counseling. I thought many of these scenes would make excellent fodder for book club discussions. Which qualities are positives or negatives? What one character sees as contentment another sees as complacency and one character's easy-going nature is seen by another as being a doormat.
In the end, the question of whether or not anyone would actually agree to this set up didn't bug me as much as the logistics of it. Most of the women apparently took an entire month off from their jobs to participate, and while the author sometimes tried to explain this (one had just been laid off, one was a freelance writer and two were traveling saleswomen who could work just as easily from the guy's house) the rest expected the reader to ignore their financial situations. How, for example, does the woman with the home day care close down for a month without alienating all her clients?
I finished the book quickly because despite its flaws (including an inordinate number of typos) the story and characters made me want to keep reading. I wanted to see which women the guy would end up with.
